In the El Paso Opera, which I have been Principal since it began 8 years
ago, and through doing two shows a year, I have never been requested to
transpose a part so that it would be in a better range for the singer.
Since I have not played other places, I don't know what steps they are
willing to go through for individual singers, but it seems that our music
director, who is responsible for casting, selects through the audition
process only those singers who are capable of singing the parts as written.
