It has happened to me often. It's referred to in Ebay circles as "sniping".
The only recourse is to make your last bid "Maximum" high enough that their
"last second" bid
won't be higher than your bid. You'll still win the item with your
"minimum" bid by the time they
keep rebidding to find what your maximum bid was.

I agree - it's not right. But if you'll set your maximum bid at the
highest you're willing to pay in the
last few minutes of the bid you'll outsmart these guys trying to move in at
the last second and grab your item for pennies more.
