I don't want to get into an argument about the Rubank Clarinet Method.
The advanced Method does have good duets and the Rubank method does
cover all of the scales. However, I now use the Galper Clarinet Method
written by Abe Galper, on our list, and available through Luyben Music.
The Galper Clarinet Method also covers everything one would want in a
method book for young students or adult beginners, but it is so much
fun. Yesterday, I was perusing one of Kalman Opperman's books on
Velocity, the Elementary Book. I had one of my 11-year-olds play through
parts of the book with me, and she commented that the Galper book
covered the same material, but also had phrasing, melodies, and was a
lot more fun. The Galper Method does not need to be "adapted" to make it
a usable product. It is fine just the way it is, and when my students
don't practice, they don't mind repeating the passages again and again,
because they are so beautiful. ANNIE
