That's kind of what I had in mind. "Better" is subjective, of course,
but the point is one of choice. I have little doubt that the "stock"
barrels that come with Rossi clarinets are excellent. They may simply
not be to the best possible specs for every given player, and no ad-
vanced player who is worth his salt (Rossi is a professional level in-
strument, of course) is going to be satisfied with his setup if it's
likely that he can raise the level of his playing by making an adjust-
ment to the equipment that he plays. It's highly unlikely that the
custom barrels that Rossi makes for his instruments are optimal for
all of those who buy his instruments, especially if the variety of
spec arrangements for the barrels he makes is limited, which it is.
Morrie Backun broadens the field a bit, and perhaps you do as well
if you're also making barrels for Rossi clarinets. Good information
for anybody who is considering plunking down $3500 for one of them.
In my case, it would be $7000 because I would want an A as well.
