Subj: [kl] Universal Clarinet Methods
Date: Tue, 30 Apr 2002 00:46:42 -0400

I have just had a major trip down memory lane today. Today, while at the
location that I teach on Monday's, the person in charge of the studio
brought in a pile of books that were donated. As I looked through the pile,
to my surprise and joy, I found a copy of the Universal Fundamental Methods
for the Clarinet as well as a copy of the Universal Follow-Up Method for the
Clarinet. These were the 2 books that I used when I started playing the
Clarinet in the 6th Grade back in 1966.

I have always wanted to see these methods again just to compare them to what
is available to us now. After looking at them I would really like to see
them published again, they have many of the qualities and features that I am
looking for.

One of the things that surprised me about the Elementary Method was the
amount of songs used to help learn the various notes and intervals. This is
a far cry from the Rubank Elementary that all my students complain about.

The Advanced Method seems to be a compendium of Klose, Rubank Intermediate,
Langenus, and Rubank Advanced One. I.E. a lot was packed into 72 pages.

Boy! Do I feel old today.
