I also memorize on the piano, and clarinet. Yes, it is much easier on the piano.

One thing I do to strengthen my memory, is to practising starting on each subsequent bar.

The brain likes to store music in streams. Therefore if you forget, or fall of a phrase you have to go back to the beginning to pick up the thread. I like to make lots of threads starting on each bar, even if mid phrase, thus strengthening the memory.

The big enemy to performing from memory is fear.
What if I fall off?
Well, get back on.
