I have played the six notturni on many occasions and can only supply you
with how we did it, though i doubt that there is any tradition involved.

Keeping in mind that the voices and the text are the important
component, we simply placed the singers in the front, the two women on
one side, the man on the other, and the three clarinets/basset horns in
the middle but a little behind the singers. Works fine that way.
