Janis -

Never lay your horn down horizontally unless it has been swabbed. Always
have a good peg for it to stand on. For my money, this also applies
especially to playing in band or orchestra. If you have a long rest, use
your swab. For short periods, keep your horn vertical resting on your knee
or on the peg. That is, unless you enjoy those embarrassing gurgling bird
calls on your next solo passage when no one else is playing.

I tried the clarinets later that night and they were fine! The weird thing
is that is was both my a and b flat clarinets. I did have my clarinets
lying down too and I think the room was a bit cold so perhaps it was a
moisture problem. Such temperamental things!
