Funny, I had a similar problem with my R13 when I took an hour break from
practising about a week ago.(I laid the clarinet down horizontally )The
clarinet could play going down to the middle B but not across the break to B
or C.The low F & E worked fine.This had me similarly perplexed.Changed
everything-barrels,mouthpiece ,ligatures, reeds.Tested it with flashlight for
leaks-was none.Thought I saw a bubble of moisture(aka spit) on the C
pad.Wiped the pads with Lemon OIl lightly to remove moisture.Ready to go to
Music shop to buy another clarinet.Next morning no problem.I suspect that by
lying the clarinet down a bubble of fluid formed a temporary non closure of
the pad.I have never had this problem before-my R13 was made in 1972-(does
this mean it is a vintage r13 bore?)
Mind you I was practising Night on Bald Mountain & so it could have been the
composer's revenge
