Once in a very casual pickup group and during a visit from Sigurd
Rascher, the saxophonist, we played woodwind quintets with Sigurd
playing the horn part on the saxophone. Since I never liked the
woodwind quintet as a group in any case and played very little of the
literature, I was unable to make any intelligent judgement about
substituting the sax for the French horn. The only advantage I found
was that there was a great deal less spit on the floor.
