But beyond the RC vs. Prestige R13 question, a really interesting question
is the matter of how and why individual specimens of the same model and even
manufacturing proximity (as shown by the serial number) can produce
clarinets that are so different in accuracy of intonation and resonance in
note for note comparisons, to say nothing of the subjective matter of tone
color. The critical dimensions of the bore and tone must be extremely small
to produce these differences. This implies that advances in computerized
manufacturing techniques and really good quality-control supervision of the
WE. Edwards Deming sort could ease much of the clarinetists' selection
agony.
