Actually, I think the situation is considerably better with wine
than with clarinet sound. While terminology like "bold", "robust",
"delicate", and so forth is hopelessly vague, there are some
objective attributes of wine that can be tasted, smelled, or felt,
and to some extent, measured: dry versus sweet, sugar-acid balance,
tannin content, viscosity, various aromas, and even a term like
"fruity", which after all, refers at least to a certain constellation
of esters that are noticeably present.

On the other hand, I don't think there are many objective aspects
of clarinet sound at all.
