Subj: [kl] Improved Clarinets vs. Oehler

The Oehler system fingers like the Albert (Simple) system. Throat F
natural requires a side key, High C is middle finger like a saxophone,
and low Bb/Bnatural (high F#/Fnatural) are the opposite of Boehm . There
is no tone hole at R2, but a complex mechanism with two vents on the
side. Two each pinky keys have rollers, and use the patent C# system
which allows easy transition between B natural and C#. There is no ring
linkage between the two segments. There are more trill keys. The barrel
is shorter, the mouthpiece more like early clarinets, and string is the
accepted ligature. Full Oehler clarinets have a R Thumb key to sharpen
the lowest notes to pitch. By the way, I still have a Fritz Schuller
Oehler for sale. I found it impossible to go back and forth between
Boehm and Oehler, although some players can do it. Any benefit to
Oehler? Richer tone? Better timbre? It has eluded me. Perhaps the
Germans can tell you.
