Klarinet Archive - Posting 000462.txt from 2002/04

I live in the SE - it's usually pronounced sorta like boo-fay amongst
musicians who are familiar with the brand, with the occasional buh-fey (like
the restaurant food bar), and the once-in-a-while buf-ett, just like Jimmy.
(the last usually in jest, or someone who doesn't get out much).
Our communication may not be good here - keep in mind I'm no expert on
phonetic spelling - nobody I know stresses the first syllable , as my
spelling might suggest, -- everyone one sorta stresses the second syllable -
buFEY.
Or does the PA crowd say "buh-fey?" I'm sure none of us say it quite like
the French.
Say, don't we have a few Buffett people on the list? What's the "official"
pronunciation?
