It sounds really neat, kinda wierd, percussive. The usual sign for it is a "+"
over the note. Sometimes the tone is not at all or just barely audible after the
slap - or you can start a tone with this effect. It can be softer or louder. The
loudest slap tongue I ever heard - I still can't believe it! - is my colleage in
the Rascher Saxophone Orchestra on bass sax, Andreas van Zoelen. It hurts the
ears. He hasn't managed to teach it to me yet.....
