Hi Folks,
Yes, I could learn how to play a slap tongue on bass or clarinet.
Of course my main language is not english but I will try to pass the
information.
In my oppinion the main problem in how to learn slap togue is our basic
concepts on how to use the tongue.
Since we start on the clarinet we learn that the tip of the tongue should
touch the tip of the reed. That is right!! It will left you improve your
stacatto faster and faster.
The slap togue works backwords(?): the part of the tongue that touch the tip
of the reed is the midle. The tip of the tongue should be under the reed,
touching your lips and, the midle of the tongue should touch the reed the
same way the finger of a guitarrist touch the strings to get its sound.
The main sound of the slap tongue became from the reed "slaping" against the
mouthpiece - that should be the first step: get the sound of it WITHOUT AIR.
Just after a month or more of study you can start to put together the sound
of "slap" and the air colun to get the definition of the sound in any part
of the range of the clarinet.
I hope it helps!!!

All the best
