This issue has been discussed many times on the list, and I am one of the
most vocal critics of those toooo lazy to do the basic research, but expect
the handout on the perverbial silver platter. Being able to do research is
required of any university student at ANY level--bachelors, masters or
doctorate.

I would hope that J. Christianson-Wood would advise the list as to what
efforts his daughter has made to prepare for her orals, such as library
research, etc. Perhaps his daughter has done her research and exhausted all
available resources, and is asking for additional ideas?
