Carpet from your local Home Depot, Lowes, KMart, or
Walmart are great! You can get a bound piece of
neutral or bland carpet for $30-40, which could cover
a wall or ceiling with each piece. Overlap the carpet
for the corners. The carpet absorbs the sound well,
like in a dead practice room. You could also try
inexpensive drapes, such as KMart, or Ikea, or Target
for about the same amount to cover a whole wall.
I have a rug I brought back from Peru on one wall in
my living room, and parts of the rest of my walls in
the living room are covered with floor to ceiling
drapes. Does wonders!
