Repetition
is the name of the game. While playing "Scherzo" on flute, I had to
memorize the 5+ pages. I simply repeated the parts which were similar and
focused mainly on my weak spots.

I feel that memorization gives you more freedom with individualizing your
performance and interpretation of music, though it is actually something
I rarely do anymore.
