Subj: [kl] Extra G#/C# kep on right hand.

J. Tim Chance,

You have combined two messages now that are not
related at all except for the fact that they are about
extra keys not usually found on french style
clarinets.

The original post was someone asking about getting an
extra G#/C# key (usually operated by the left hand)
for the right side, like an oboe or english horn would
have as a standard key. This banana key, I proceeded
to say, could probably be added and adapted for the
clarinet easily, since it is an additional KEY, and
not an additional TONEHOLE, and the key, since it is
already being made for oboe, could probably be taken
and added to a clarinet, with minor adjustments to the
mechanism.

ROLLERS were never part of the discussion for Paul
Covey's work, and I'm not sure why you are so
relentless to discount Mr. Covey as a repairman and
instrumentmaker, by saying he won't or can't do this,
and then giving endless names of others to call
instead of Mr. Covey. I'm not sure if you have a thing
against Mr. Covey, but this was a totally different
key discussion, and you are way off topic when
combining the roller key discussion for right hand
keys that ALREADY EXIST on clarinets on German models,
with the want for an added right hand G#/C# key for
the note usually operated by the left hand, which has
NOTHING to do with rollers. Banana keys are french
style oboe/english horn side keys operated by the
knuckle of your right hand. For the matter of adapting
keys, I could also have mentioned the Laubin factory
being an option, but with a 3 year backup on their
regular oboe production, I didn't think they would
have the time to do such a thing. LOTS of instrument
makers can make different keys for an instrument. I
was discussing taking an EXISTING key from an oboe,
and adapting it for clarinet.
