Practice transposing ATONAL music. Then you'll REALLY think in C (or A or
Bb or whatever).

I took a huge leap in being able to transpose on site after I had to play
Schoenberg's Five Pieces for Orchestra (chamber version), and some Mahler
songs - which, while not atonal, were stretched tonality. >>

Thanks for the input. Sean, as some of you know, has played more c clarinet
than most people can ever imagine playing! In addition, he knows, through
years of experience, the value of being able to concentrate for long (in his
case, really long) periods of time.

Interestingly, I showed up at a rehearsal first thing this morning for some
kiddie shows. The first thing we rehearsed was the "March to the Scaffold" by
Berlioz which, of course, is for c clarinet.
