She said: "Anything about David Peck, who once was with the San Diego
Symphony, and is now with the Houston Symphony. Attention to detail.
And then some. What an incredibly fine musician and player - and a
wonderful human being."

I have a funny David Peck story, but it's nice.

David had been selected to play 1st in San Diego but the manager of the
Houston Symphony (from which he was coming) did not agree to let him go
before a certain date, and that was too late for the SDSO. The
manager's name is "Toeplitz" and he is now in Pittsburgh managing the
PSO.

Anyway, I had played with the SDSO (Tony Pay conducted) and had heard
about the problem of them being unable to get Peck until a date that
they considered too late. Later I was having dinner with Uri Toeplitz,
former principle flute in the Israel Philharmonic and father of Toeplitz
from Houston (now Pittsburgh) at his home in Tel Aviv. We were chatting
about this and that when, suddenly the phone rang. It was Toeplitz in
Houston calling his father.

And just as the conversation winded down, I asked Uri if he would let me
speak to his son. So he handed the phone to me and I said, "Why won't
you let Peck go to San Diego now?"

The phone went silent. Finally, a very surprised Toeplitz said, "How
does someone visiting my father in Tel Aviv know that I won't let Peck
go from Houston?"

I said, "I'm psychic!!"

We all were in hysterics about that coincidence!!
