I knew Percy Grainger very well. My wife and I were would visit him
frenquently in White Plains and we remained on good terms with Ella
Grainger after Percy's death. He once said to me that he was not a
particularly good saxophone player but that he enjoyed it very much.
Several important solos for soprano sax (such as the ones in
Lincolnshire Posy) were given to that instrument precisely because of
his affection for it.
