Probably Plasticover reeds, made by Rico. They start with a regular cane
reed, then coat it with the black plastic stuff. They are not real
popular, but I understand some jazz players like them. They share most of
the major advantages of synthetic reeds, and the tonal disadvantages as
well. A fellow bass clarinetist in college with me used them because she
had allergic reactions to normal cane reeds.
