I usually stick them in a mug of water just to soften them a little if they
seem a little hard. Just don't leave them for too long otherwise they have
to be dried out and the whole process has to start all over again. However,
if you have only just started playing again try and start on some reeds that
are a little softer and build up to the one you used to play.
