Thanks to those who have so far commented on my post. Someone mentioned that
I could get a nice R-13 used for not much more than what I could get for my
two intermediate models. I agree that this is true and something I have
considered, but my teacher seems to feel strongly about buying new.

Of course, I realize I don't have to do everything my teacher says. I'm in my
30s and am not so easily intimidated or talked into things, but I do trust
his opinion highly. I guess I just grew up with the notion that new does not
always equal better, so I am balking a bit at buying new. I think this topic
has been discussed in this forum (more than once, I'm sure!) before, so I
will have a look at the archives as well, but if anyone would like to pipe
in, feel free. :)

Another suggestion someone posted was to have fun trying out a few pro models
to see what I think. I have to admit, I am a little afraid to do this! You
can guess why. Deep down I know that a pro model *would* make a difference,
and it would make me sad to not be able to fund one at this point! ;)

Well... I am off to my clarinet lesson soon. Thanks again for the input!

Best regards,

Amy
