While playing through one of Ron Nelson's pieces, I noticed that the 1st
Bb Clarinet part mainly playing notes in the stratosphere.

Can any of your experienced clarinetists tell me why not just allow the
Eb Clarinet to double these or play 1st and 2nd parts to this.

Is there any color, texture or depth that the Bb has in the altissimo
register that the eefer cannot do?
