Hey Blake,

I don't have the answer to your question in front of me (I'm at work),
but I'm curious: you're not doing Daphnis with the Irving Symphony, are
you? I did it with them, must've been back in '98 or so, at the Meyer-
son, and it was quite bad. Hector over-extended the orchestra. I re-
member having the oddest experience of mixed emotions at the end of the
work. As we rose to our feet and looked out on the 2000-seat concert hall,
we were greeted with the most tepid applause I'd ever received for an or-
chestral performance. It was simultaneously embarrassing and gratifying.
I was mortified throughout the performance, knowing that it was simply
premature, and was consequently pleased that the audience's reaction bore
the integrity of judgment that the performance deserved. We've had this
discussion on the list before, and that was pretty much the only time that
I'd ever seen an audience truly reflect the quality of a bad performance
in the nature of their reaction. It was great!
