It seems to me that bending notes without a particular goal in mind
(without a sound to compare it against) ) is a useful solo exercise.
Can you play a long tone and gradually move it up or down? Can you
'hear' how far you're moving it? And as you've already suggested, can
you hold it at some 'bent' position while you vary the loudness?
