Dear Klarinet Friends,

Recently, the mother of one of my students ran across an Albert system
clarinet for sale at an "antique" store. Excitedly, she sent it to me
via her daughter for evaluation. It appears to me to be junk except for
the Portnoy BPO2 mouthpiece included. I'm asking you for help before I
offer my opinion to her.

The information on the logo (visible only on the bell) is as follows:
"Paul Dupre, Paris France, Conservatoire". On both joints is stamped "B,
LP", and on the lower joint is included ""France"".

The instrument has two long cracks running from the top of the upper
joint to a point past the throat A key, which have been inexpertly
pinned (both are visible inside the bore. The there is now a plastic
barrel in place of the original one. The lower joint and bell are in
good shape; all keys seem to be correctly shaped and oriented. Unknown
beasties have eaten their fill of pad material... The case looks to be
the original and is serviceable, though worn at the corners.

An overhaul would probably put the instrument into some sort of playing
condition, but the cracks would preclude me spending that kind of money
unless we're looking at some sort of "Wunderklarinette" :-)

I didn't learn the asking price (I'd pay $10 for the mouthpiece), so,
for anyone having the time and inclination to reply, a price estimation
(what you would pay for what I described) would be appreciated.

If you wish to reply privately, please send to k.krive@-----.

Thanks,

Kent
