I have never understood why opera sopranos try it. They must be able

Dear Bill, I am a female opera singer, and I agree with you 100%. I have
tried to sing jazz, because Mel Torme inspires me to try, but it always
sounds ridiculous in my opera voice, and I am too scared to really dig into
my chest voice, for fear it will damage my head voice. I did do 3 BG songs
on my last recital, and played and sang, and went ahead and used my chest
voice, but even then, after I heard the recording, I said, "never again!"

What were you watching that incensed you so much?
