Subj: [kl] things that are bulbous

One of the listers mentioned a bulbous bell to help stabilize the middle
(bell) B.
My experience has been that if that note is unclear or not good in any way,
it most likely can be attributed to a long speaker key vent. Especially on
A clarinets.
Talking about bulbous shapes. I have a bulbous barrel made by Maurie Backun
in Vancouver (Mback@-----.com)
He has a different variety of woods. This one is made of cocobolo.
One good thing about these barrels is-they have no metal rings.
The ring is made of wood. A little thicker than the body itself.
The result, I feel, is quite good. It's a softer and flexible tone.
I have had two pupils try it and it gave the same results. A softer and
mellower tone.
