Hi again list, i'm back for the spring break.

My boyfriend is currently inthe process of restoring an Albert clarinet
which dates, as far as we can tell, from around 1870. This is based on
comparisons with the seial numbers of instruments in the Edinburgh
collection.

These are the markings:

Barrel: 'S.A.Chappell'

Top Joint: '2nd West York PWO YEO CY' the latter part of this means 'Prince
of Wales Own Yeomanry Company' i think
below this it says 'A. Chappell, 52 New Bond St, London'

Bottom Joint: 'E Albert, a Bruxelles'

Bell: 'Approved by Mr Lazarus'

The length is approximately 570mm, and the material may be Cocus wood with
German silver keys. The serial number, present on both joints, is 2731.

I am interested in the significance of the markings, particularly the
military mark and the stamp on the bell, and whether it is high or low
pitch. Could anyone point me in the direction in my search?

TIA
Em
