Even though my effort is not a serious one, it has been quite
educational. I suppose some people are craftsmen by nature, and they
look at an object and understand how it works. But not myself. I've
put my developing 'reed' on my mouthpiece several times and tried to
produce a note. When nothing useful happens, I realize "Oh! So
_that's_ why this thing isn't working!" and I understand a little better
what's involved in a 'proper' reed."

<><> By the way--anyone in the Richmond VA area who wants to hear some
of Michael Garson's new pieces (written for Eddie Daniels), might drop
by a faculty recital at VCU this Thursday the 21st at 8. It's Charles
Staples, Jim Wilson and myself--Debussy, Schubert Arpeggione and the
Brahms op. 114 trio.

Enjoy, Chuck!

Cheers,
Bill
