Is Julian Bliss a prodigy for real? This has now been openly asked. My
opinion on the matter derives from what I define as musically prodigious,
which is: someone of an unusually young age showing exceptional emotional
attachment and committment to the music as well as a fully professional
standard of execution (also rare in very young people).

I had the opportunity to hear Mr. Bliss in Oklahoma a few years ago along
with several other professional clarinetists of exceptional ability. By that
concert alone, I am convinced enough to call Julian Bliss a real musical
prodigy. At the age of 11 he was confidently performing repertoire that most
professionals would refer to as difficult. His projection of the music was
also exceptional and, while not entirely in sympathy with my own coneptions,
convincing overall.

I believe the majority of my colleagues who were there that afternoon would
agree. Never thought I would hear anything like it.
