CBS owned Fender guitars for a while too with similar results. When
bean-counters instead of musicians run instrument companies, the bottom
line takes precedence over quality -- for a while. When the drop in
quality starts to AFFECT the bottom line they begin to take
notice. Similar cyclical behavior has been noted in other industries, eg.
automobiles. Putting a bunch of MBA's in charge has wrecked a LOT of
companies!
