One thing I think some of us do overlook from time to time when dealing with
reeds, at least in certain climates, is the effect of the increase or
decrease of humidity in the air on how well or poorly a reed will respond.

Just today, I took out several new reeds I had started a week ago or so. So
far, they had been very responsive, and played easily. Since the rains the
last two day, they have been quite resistant. I have not done anything
different inasfar as i do not soak them in anything. It is simply a great
deal more humid today than it was a couple of weeks ago. I have no
intentions of ditching these reeds. But I will have to adjust how I play on
them - embouchure, placement on the mouthpiece, etc.

It's a way of life for us. Accept it, or...play trumpet. (Ewww...a fate
worse than death! LOL J/K)
