If you are discarding 8 or 9 reeds out of a box, you are using either the
wrong brand, style, or strength. By varying slightly the way you mount your
reeds on the mouthpiece, you ought to get over half of the reeds to be
decent without any adjustment. With a well trained, flexible but
disciplined embouchure, you ought to be able to get about 75% of the box to
play decently without adjustment.
