Winston,

Try a "break/jerk and twist" combination maneuver before you heat anything.
I've never encountered a barrel so sticky that it could not be removed in
this manner. And, one would necessarily be extremely cautious about applying
heat to a localized area, but it, and Bill's idea, may be your last resorts
if my method doesn't work for you.
