Subj: [kl] basset clarinet bell
Date: Wed, 6 Mar 2002 18:06:05 -0500

Yesterday the bulb-shaped bell finally came for my basset clarinet! It's
made by Jochen Seggelke from Bamberg. It looks like, well, a cross
between an outhouse and a peace pipe. But it sounds gorgeous! Especially
the low C and C# sound more covered but it really changes the tone
throughout the whole range. I'll never play the Mozart on a normal bell
again! Unfortunately, covering the vent hole does not produce a low B
natural. Tonight was a rehearsal and people kept coming over to see what
the instrument was. I was the last one to get away.

The concert is:

Sunday, 10th March 2002 at 17:00 o'clock (5 pm)
in the St. Peter Church in Lörrach (near Basle) in the Haagener Strasse
at the edge of the park called Grütt.

Program:

Franz Schubert: Minuets No. 2 in F and No. 3 in D minor D89
Wolfgang Amadé Mozart: Clarinet Concerto K622
- intermission -
Franz Schubert: 7th Symphony E major D729
Franz Schubert: 8th Symphony in B minor D759 ("the unfinished")

If anybody from the list can come, please stop and say hello. It's easy
to find one's way "back stage".

Ciao,
David
