Another thing senior beginners might consider, once they have been playing a
while, is to get together a group in their area and perform in the local
public schools for the school agers who are considering playing instruments.
It would be an opportunity for the seniors to "show off" what they have
accomplished, and would give the kids a good idea of what the instruments
sounded like.

Most older people DO have a realistic idea as to whether or not they have a
fairly decent sound, as they have done some (often extensive) listening
(usually over a lifetime!) to professional players and ensembles. Some of
my best students were older people, and I would certainly enjoy working with
a group or individuals again.
