Pamela's "Clarinet Virtuosi of the Past" (1971 hardback)
and "The Clarinet Teacher's Companion" (1976)
were published by Robert Hale. The paperback
of "Clarinet Virtuosi of the Past" was published by Fentone
in 1976 and reprinted in 1982, 86 and 94.
This possibly indicates that Fentone reprinted only
small quantities and that there has been a steady demand.
"More Clarinet Virtuosi of the Past" (Fentone) was in paperback
from the start in 1977 and was reprinted at least in 1982.

Mr Fentone Senior retired before the company was sold
to de Haske, after which they immediately fired his son.
I think there are only 3 employees left at Fentones.
One of the directors of Fentones told me they had no stock
in the UK and another admitted that they did have stock
but they are not permitted to export it. All very confusing.

"Clarinet Virtuosi of Today" (Egon) is already out of print, I think.
It never reached a paperback edition. Pamela's latest,
as yet unpublished book, a 'dictionary' of a further 400
clarinettist of the past, was rejected by de Haske at the
end of last year, 2001.

Meanwhile John Newhill has provided me with additional information
(including the death dates of composers who died since 1984)
for a revised edition of his basset horn book. Translations into
Swedish and Italian (at the very least) are in progress.
He has just told me that a German author, Dr Thomas Grass,
is writing or planning to write a new book about the instrument.
