Subj: [kl] New Clarinet?
Date: Sat, 23 Feb 2002 19:00:03 -0500

I've got a friend of mine who just got a new E-13 clarinet. At first he
found problems with the tenons not fitting well - and leaving a gap of
around 2-3mm (barrel-upper joint; upper joint-lower joint; lower
joint-bell). Since he had waited for about 8 months for the clarinet to
arrive and the shop only caters a very limited amount of instruments at a
time (roughly 10 B10's, 10 B12's, 10 E 13's, 1-2 R 13's and that's it) he
did not want to miss his turn and so bought this clarinet (This after trying
most of the E 13's and finding the same problem with gaps).

The major problem is that he cannot tune otherwise but to around 430 or so.
Secondly whilst putting up his clarinet he pushed the barrel slightly more
in and now it got stuck in the upper joint for at least the past 10days.
Since we have no professional repair persons in Malta and the shop does not
offer repair service can anyone suggest a "simple" method as to dismantle
his instrument without inferring damage?

Maybe if someone of you would like to set up his repair business here....Any
help appreciated.
