In the USA there are apparently a number of thriving programs for senior
adults who want to learn to play band instruments and play with a group.
Some go under the name of New Horizons Band(s). For starters, have a look
at this web page (and then wander around further on it).

Also, though I may be wrong, I vaguely remember some discussion of the

I wouldn't be surprised to learn that there are similar programs in the UK
(though would have to hope that they aren't brass-band oriented).
