Mark already mentioned the Rigoletto has band accompaniment. (I might note
that Mark has a remarkable memory and as such probably remembered that I
performed that with my High School band and at the Summer Camps. I would
not doubt he was trying to beat me to the punch! Touche Mark. ;-)
I would also suggest finding the band accompaniment for the Zergeunerweisen
by Sarasate. Alberto Ascercion performed it with the Norfolk State
University band some years back (oh my...at least a decade or more!) and
articulated all of the second-half stuff. Very impressive showman
(double/triple-tounguing, circular breathing, etc). So NSU may have the
music. Also, you might check with the Navy Band for other arrangements if
you need them because that is where I first heard Al play Rigoletto and was
inspired to learn the piece. (Of course, he double-toungued the last portion
of the Rigoletto.)
I wonder if Al is still going? He was in his 50s in the middle-late 80s
when I took lessons from him. Anyone know Al Ascercion and if he is still
playing/teaching?
Robert
