I haven't seen anyone suggesting Everett Gates' Odd Meter Etudes. I'm always
amazed at the rhythmic foundation that my students receive by going through
the book. It takes some of them into the sophomore year of college, but
their rhythmic roots (i.e. ability to subdivide) seem to grow deep and grab
the soil as a result. I usually follow it with Marcel Bitsch, Twelve Etudes
of Rhythm (Leduc).
