Benjamin Maas asked about the instrumentation of the Sibelius Violin
Concerto and an on-line source of such information. Google found Kalmus for
me and the following listing:
http://www.kalmus-music.com/
Catalog# A2044
SIBELIUS, Jean (1865-1957)
Concerto for Violin in D minor, Op. 47
2, 2, 2, 2 - 4, 2, 3, 0, timp, str, solo violin in set
I couldn't get further into the site to get a definitive explanation of
their shorthand for the instrumentation, but it looks like 2 each of the
woodwinds, 4 horns, 2 trumpets, 3 trombones, timpani, strings and solo
violin.
