Ed, there was a lot in your message and I want to think about all of it,
but the "Partitta" issue is straightforward. Mozart never called it
that, never used that term, and never wrote a work that was in the form
of a Partita.

Someone else (no one knows who) wrote "Gran Partitta" on the top center
of the manuscript, and that person used red crayon. It has nothing to
do with Mozart and the term should not be used at all since 361 in not a
Partita in the first place.

But the name stuck for some unknown reason and we are stuck with it.
However, if the conceipt for using it is because it appears on the
manuscript (and was not even seen by the general public until around
1905 when the manuscript came out of 115 years of hidden status), then
it should be spelled the way it appears on the manuscript.

I told the publisher not to use it at all, but they insisted, and I then
insisted on the spelling that I use.

Dan
