Well, I tried, but, guess what, I found that I hadn't had time to
install it properly. So, what with wanting to listen to the effect, and
imagining the string parts, I confused myself between the two versions
and cocked the whole thing up. Partly that was because, on a period
instrument, the downward D major arpeggio is tricky, 'cause you have to
slide between the LH F# key and the LH E key to go from F# to low D
(there's no link).

I suppose I could have asked the orchestra to try it a few times 'slower
than Eddie Daniels' (have I retold that story here?), but it was towards
the end of a long day, and everyone was looking at their watches and
thinking of the train delays we have here at the moment.

So now, it's difficult. I have one more rehearsal before the concert
day, and of course I could practise it enough to make it much more
secure. I don't know what I'll do in the end. Probably I'll do just
the two bars involving high E and high G in isolation in the next
rehearsal, to see if the difference is worth it.

I do have to say that I've always found bars 91 and 92 to be very
'cheeky' in altissimo, and bars 93 and 94 a bit 'who, me?'-ish, so that
for me bars 95 and 96 are 'run away'-ish rather than climactic.

(To be continued in the presence of one or two people from the list, I
believe, though not Neil Leupold.)
