Martin,

As regards the "how often" question, I personally would judge each
instrument on its own merit when deciding, and would ignore any published or
advertised recommended "service intervals". Of course it will depend on the
amount of (ab)use the instrument gets. For beginners it may be worth
offering a checkup after 3-6 months (might even be an idea to do this free),
and allow the player or teacher to decide on others after that... (of
course, my opinion only)

As regards pricing, have a look at the pricing policies of other shops
(www.myatt.co.uk, www.dawkes.co.uk, can't remember any others right now) and
base your decision on that.

Cheers

Ian Black

Subject: [kl] Servicing of instruments

My question is to those who repair and service clarinets and to all clarinet
teachers.

I own three music shops in England.

How often do you recommend students to have their instruments serviced?

What is a fair price to charge?

I want to find the balance of what is best for the student and what is best
for their instruments! Not what is best for the shops!

Thank you for your replies.

Kind regards

Martin Powell
